The Lake That Wasn't There. 2024_25

"The Lake That Wasn’t There" is an installation featuring a video projection alongside eight silkscreen prints on a unique material I've termed "concrete paper." This artwork presents an abstract representation of Canyon Lake, a body of water that, while seemingly natural and eternal, was artificially created by damming the Guadalupe River to mitigate flooding. It reflects on the concept of "natural" and encourages a dialogue about the histories we choose to overlook when we shape our landscapes.

We wanted the river tamed, the valley drowned, the water ours.
Now we call this quiet natural, this safety beautiful.
Every surface hides a depth we choose not to see.
